One of the things that I love doing in our clinic is working with postoperative patients. I've worked in a bariatric setting since 2006. I moved here from Utah about seven years ago. I, myself am a bariatric patient. So I had a lap band placed in 2008 and had it removed with Dr. St. Laurent, and he converted my lap band to sleeve in 2013. It was a great decision for me. It was the best thing I had done. The lap band was a great tool for me. I lost most of my weight, almost 100 pounds with that, but I found that I was having complications and I needed to have that revised.
Dr. St. Laurent is an excellent surgeon, and he does a lot of revisional surgeries. So I trusted him to be able to perform that surgery for me. I also assist him in surgery, so I see that he's a meticulous surgeon and he does a great job making people feel better and creating the best anatomy for them to be most successful.
I see patients in our clinic for bariatric follow-up, which is rewarding to me because I can share my experience as a bariatric patient, not only with them, but it helps them know that they're not alone. You can eventually come out the other side and you feel great and weight loss is achievable.
